Social Media Stance
Social media platforms are deranging us, they are perverting and hiding the fundamentally free nature of the Internet, they are stealing, freebooting, and profiting from our intellectual property and personal lives, they have ulterior motives, they have manifested a negative increase in pathologically narcissistic and anti-social behaviors, they increasingly set arbitrary rules and conditions for speech to take place, or for information to be shared, and, through various forms of censorship and shadow-banning, they are infringing on our right to hear one another. Whatever insignificant benefits that might come from social media companies (e.g. technical convenience), they hardly outweigh the manifold restrictions and problems. Social media, as it stands today, is intellectually damaging, socially and morally destructive, and for many other reasons largely unhealthy and unethical. I take most defenses of social media platforms to be a kind of weak Stockholm syndrome. This website here helps to free me from the many ills and constraints of social media platforms.
